Fitor Estate, Baix Empordà, Catalonia, warmly welcomes the Barcelona BioEconomy Forum field trip.
Situated at les Gavarres Area of Natural Interest (EIN), Fitor is a very old district with hills from where the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea can be seen just a few miles away. This family estate was established during the mid-20th Century, with the idea of preserving it as a magical place. Today, the results of its multi-generational management reach beyond the limits of the family itself, enriching the Natural and Cultural Heritage of Europe.
The field trip will visit three silvicultural experiments on pine nut production and three experiments on quality cork production, interspersed with a visit to the Roca del Glà Dolmen and to terraces designed for water retention. If possible, there will be a demonstration on biomass production from forest scrub, using innovative machinery.
